Designing an infinite timeline
Notes on keeping a long, scrolling page calm, fast and readable.
The challenge with an infinite scroll is keeping it calm. A few principles I used:
- One line, one direction. The line fills up as you scroll, so you always know where you are.
- Colour means type. Coral for life, blue for work, green for writing.
- Load gently. Items load in small batches and fade in as they arrive.
